Tips for GSuite: Tapping Into the Power of Emojis

Emojis are everywhere...

There was even an Emoji Movie this summer that so far, I have successfully avoided the pleas of my six year son to go see (can you guess which emoji he is obsessed with?).

You can even personalize emoji to the next level with Bitmoji...

So, the evidence is clear, emojis are popular and here to stay. Let's look at some ways that we can use emojis in GSuite to engage students.

Where do I find emojis?

On any Google Doc, Sheet, or Slide, open the Insert Menu and click Special characters:

Then select the emoji category:

Bam! All of the emojis are available and ready for you to insert! 😍😍

But is that the only way? Of course not...you can use the keyboard shortcut: "Alt + I" (both keys at the same time) and then "C" to quickly insert more emojis!

What about Bitmoji?

Bitmoji is how you can take emojis to the next level. It does require a free account sign-up to create your avatar and some Bitmojis are not appropriate for students. It is the author's opinion that students should not create Bitmoji accounts as a school activity due to the possible mature content (a more appropriate student alternative is PickaFace).

Bitmoji has a Chrome extension that allows you to drag and drop images into Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

Classroom Ideas
